Holidays to Turkey – Refreshing Beverages That You Should Try

Turkey is an exotic nation on the Mediterranean with a large percentage of the area in the Anatolian region of West Asia. Gifted with a pleasant climate, amazing sights, magnificent architecture, energetic nightlife, and friendly people, Turkey is one of leading destinations of travelers.

But the sites, climate, night entertainment, and citizens are only of the things that make Turkey an interesting country to visit. When spending holidays to Turkey, you should try out locally blended beverages. Truly, drinking their beverages constitutes a part of experiencing Turkey’s culinary culture.

1. Ayran
This is a famous beverage made of water and yogurt and served without sugar. Sometimes, a little salt is added. The beverage is really pleasant and refreshing especially if taken during hot weather.

2. Kahve
Kahve, or Turkish coffee, is poured in small cups. The brew is tasty but very strong. Typically, kahve is served black. However, if the coffee is too strong for you, you can add some milk or sugar in it.

3. Cay
Cay is traditional Turkish tea, the beverage of choice of many Turks; in fact, Turks are heavy tea drinkers. Check out their special elma cay (apple tea) or ada cay (sage tea). Keep in mind that if your tea is infused by locals, your beverage may be stronger than usual. Weaken it a bit with hot water or milk.

4. Boza
Another refreshing beverage to be taken during hot weather, boza is a cold, thick beverage that originally came from Central Asia. The beverage is made from fermented bulgur wheat in which sugar and water are added. You can obtain commercially made boza, placed in plastic bottles, in supermarkets. But they are sweeter and less dense than the locally made sour and thick boza.

5. Sahlep
Great for cold, winter nights, sahlep is a traditional hot beverage in which milk, sugar, and orchid root are blended. Normally, the beverage is garnished with cinnamon. It goes well with sweet pastries.

6. Red poppy syrup
This local beverage is made out of water, sugar, and red poppy petals. It is very refreshing and is a favorite of kids.

When enjoying cheap holidays to Spain, Turkey, Greece, or any other region in the world, be sure to have a taste of their traditional beverages.
